V dňoch 25. - 27.6. 2010 oslávime 20. výročie založenia Slovenského PEN Centra verejnými prezentáciami štyroch pozvaných delegácií PEN Centier, slávnostnou donáciou kníh do Celosvetovej PEN knižnice a následnou medzinárodnou konferenciou v kaštieli Budmerice. Hlavným programom konferencie je prezentácia ideí PEN International mladej autorskej generácii na Slovensku, v rámci projektu "Misia mladý PEN", pri ktorej spolupracujeme s Národným osvetovým centrom a Združením literárnych klubov Slovenska. PEN American Center

 

 

Steven L. Isenberg is Executive Director of the PEN American Center, the largest chapter of International PEN, the world’s oldest international literary and human rights organization. He has been a professor and media executive and his resume includes an impressive list of assignments in journalism, government, law, and academia. He was publisher of New York Newsday, The Stamford Advocate, Greenwich Time, and the Executive Vice President of The Los Angeles Times.  Since 2003, he has served on the Board of Directors of the Committee to Protect the Journalists (CPJ) and became an advisory board member in February 2008. Isenberg is now Chairman of the Board Emeritus of Adelphi University on Long Island, New York, where he was President ad interim.
He has taught at the University of Texas at Austin as a visiting professor of the humanities; at Berkeley as a visiting professor of English and journalism; visiting lecturer at Yale; the James K. Batten Professor of Public Policy at Davidson College; and visiting scholar in media studies at The New School University and Polytechnic in New York. He is also an honorary Fellow of Worcester College, Oxford University, England, and holds an Honorary Doctorate from Adelphi University.
Prior to working in newspapers, Isenberg had been chief of staff to New York City Mayor John V. Lindsay and a litigator at the firm of Breed, Abbott and Morgan. He served as president of the executive advisory board of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of California at Berkeley.
Isenberg obtained his undergraduate degree in English Literature from the University of California at Berkeley in 1962; a second bachelor's degree and a master's degree (also in English Literature) from Worcester College, Oxford University, England, in 1966; and a JD from Yale Law School in 1975.

Michael F. Moore
Translator and Interpreter, Permanent Mission of Italy to the United Nations. Preparing foreign policy statements, position papers and talking points for the Italian Ambassador to the UN, and speeches by the Foreign Minister, Prime Minister, and President of Italy. Interpreting for top-level government officials at one-on-one and group meetings in bilateral and multilateral frameworks (August 1993 to present).
Chair, Translation Committee of the PEN American Center. Head of leading literary translator’s association in the United States. Helps to establish professional standards, liaise with the publication industry and cultural organizations, set up literary events, provide translation grants and prizes, raise awareness of translation (March 2005 to present).
Regular consultant/interpreter/translator in New York for the Italian Cultural Institute, the Consulate-General of Italy, and the Italian Trade Commission, as well as the Film Society of Lincoln Center, Museum of Modern Art, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Other major clients include ABC, RAI, Rizzoli, Farrar Straus & Giroux, and Ferrari.

Serbian PEN Centre

 

 

Mihajlo Pantić (born 1957 in Belgrade), contemporary Serbian  short story writer and literary critic. He has published over 40 books (short stories, essays, critiques, studies, anthologies), for which he was awarded with serious number of literary prices in Serbia. His stories with their elements of meta-narration primarily fictionalize scenes from new urban environments. He combines (neo)realistic and (post)modernistic (quotation, Alexandrian) narrative methods. Short story collections, first issue: Hronika sobe (Chronicle of a Room, 1984), Vonder u Berlinu (Wonder in Berlin, 1987), Pesnici, pisci i ostala menažerija (Poets, Writers and the Rest of the Menagerie, 1992), Novobeogradske priče (New Belgrade Stories, 1994), Sedmi dan košave (Seventh Day of the Koshava Wind, 1999), Ne mogu da se setim jedne rečenice (I Can’t Remember one Sentence, 2000), Ako je to ljubav (If This is Love, 2003), Ovoga puta o bolu (This time about pain, 2007), Priče na putu (Stories on the Road, 2010). His short stories have been translated to over 20 languages. Teaches History of Serbian and South Slavic Literature and Creative Writing at the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade. Mihajlo Pantić is vice-president of Serbian PEN center board. He is also the editor of well known literary editions and editor of Serbian literary periodicals and literary magazines.

 

Vladislav Bajac
Born in Belgrade, Serbia, Yugoslavia in 1954. Studied Faculty of Philology, Department of Yugoslav and World Literature, Belgrade University. Vladislav Bajac used to be a journalist and translator. Currently he is a writer and a publisher. The author of ten books - six novels, two books of short stories, two books of poetry. Also founder and manager of Centre for Geopoetics Publishing in 1993. At the moment director of Geopoetics Publishing, Belgrade. Vice-president of Serbian PEN Centre (2008-2010). Married and having two children.

Croatian P.E.N. Centre

 

Nadežda Čačinovič je predsedníčka Organizácie PEN v Chorvátsku od roku 2009.
Narodená 1.4. 1947 v Budapešti. Študovala v Zürichu, Berne, Belehrade, Murskej Sobote a Ľubľane. Študovala filozofiu, komparatívnu literatúru, dejiny umenia a lingvistiku v Ľubľane, Bone a Frankfurte. Ukončila Filozofickú fakultu v Ľubľane ( štúdium filozofie a komparatívnej literatúry). Doktorát z filozofie obhájila na Filozofickej fakulte v Záhrebe.
Od roku 1976 pracuje na Filozofickej fakulte v Záhrebe, najprv pôsobila ako asistent, od roku 1985 ako docent, od roku 1989 ako mimoriadny profesor a od roku 1998 pôsobí ako riadny profesor. V rokoch 1995 – 1999 hosťovala ako profesor na Jan van Eyck Postgraduate Centre v Maastrichte. V roku 1995 sa zúčastnila založenia a Centra pre ženské štúdie v Záhrebe a od toho času tam aj prednáša.

Zvonko Maković est né en 1947 en Croatie. Il vit et travaille à Zagreb, où il a fait des études de littérature comparée et d'histoire de l'art. Il enseigne et dirige le département d'art moderne à l'université de Zagreb. Il est poète, critique, essayiste et historien de l'art et a organisé de nombreuses expositions d'art (commissaire de l'exposition du pavillon croate pour Biennale de Venise en 2001).
Il a publié dix livres de poésie, plusieurs essays, des livres d'art et a été rédacteur de nombreuses revues. Son œuvre poétique a été récompensée par les prix «A.B.Šimić» (1968), «Vladimir Nazor» (1983), et «Goranov vijenac» pour l'ensemble de son œuvre (2001). Sa poésie figure dans les anthologies de la poésie contemporaine croate. Il est traduit en anglais, français, allemand, néerlandais, italien, polonais et slovène.

Cyprus

 

Niki Marangou
Born in Limassol, Cyprus 1948.  Studied sociology in West Berlin from 1965-70. Worked for ten years as dramaturg at the State Theatre of Cyprus. From  1980-2007 she run  KOCHLIAS BOOKSHOP in Nicosia.
She has published  books of prose, poetry and children’s fairy tales and won state prizes for her literary work. In 1998 she won in the Cavafy prize for poetry in Alexandria.  In 2004 her poem “Roses”  was chosen to be hung in waiting rooms in NHS Hospitals in the UK. In 2006 she received  the Athens Academy poetry award for her book DIVAN. In May 2008 her book THE DEMON OF LUST was nominated  in Athens as one the ten best short stories of the year for the Diavazo awards.  Her poems are included in the “European constitution in verse” of the Brussels Poetry Collective (2009) and in the cd  «Nachrichten von der Poesie» (Random House) edited by  Joachim Sartorius. She is a member of the Hellenic Authors Society and the Cyprus Writers Assosiation.
She had seven exhibitions of her work in painting. She lives in Nicosia and has a daughter who is  a painter.

"My mother comes from Macedonia, north Greece and my father from Famagusta. This gave me a wide view of the Greek world as I grew up at its eastern point. We have been lucky as a generation to have witnessed extremes. High technology and my grandmother weaving, gypsies with dancing bears and computers. Six years in Berlin confused me enough. I needed the torpid summer noons of Nicosia to remind me again who I was. I did various jobs, taught pottery to blind children, worked for the theatre, run a bookshop. The central point in my life has always been the passion with language, with the Greek language in all its forms, contemporary, ancient, Byzantine. I like to play with the language.  This is why I opened a bookshop, so I could have all the books I wanted. This is why I sink in books, I go back to University, searching for words, looking for new games. I use words like colours to illustrate  images. Some come from afar."

Jiří DĚDEČEK (*13. 2. 1953, Karlovy Vary)
Písničkář, básník, prozaik a překladatel. Po absolvování SVVŠ v Praze (1968–71) a dvou semestrech na Fakultě sociálních věd a publicistiky UK (1971–72) studoval na FF UK knihovnictví a vědecké informace (absolvoval 1976 prací Společenská funkce vědeckofantastické literatury). Studium scenáristiky a dramaturgie na pražské FAMU (1982–87) ukončil prací Jazyk scenáristy Jiřího Brdečky. Po ukončení roční vojenské služby působil ve svobodném povolání jako tlumočník z francouzštiny a ruštiny v Pražské informační službě (1977–83). 25. dubna 2006 byl Jiří Dědeček poprvé zvolen předsedou Českého centra Mezinárodního PEN klubu, v dubnu 2009 pak byla jeho volba potvrzena pro druhé funkční období.
V letech 1974–86 vystupoval s Janem Burianem ve vlastních kabaretních pásmech na malých pražských scénách (např. Ateliér, Rubín, Junior klub na Chmelnici) a podnikal zájezdy do studentských klubů po celé republice. V samizdatu vyšel soubor písňových textů Výběr z textů 1981-85 (Kvasar, sv. 2, 1986). Po roce 1989 publikoval ve Tvaru (1991 zde seriál Otevřená psaní z Dijonu), Lidových novinách, Lettre Internationale, Divadelních novinách, Hospodářských novinách, Pražských novinách a na několika internetových serverech. Příležitostně spolupracuje s Českou televizí (pravidelný pořad rozhovorů Host do domu, cyklus Cizí slovo Poezie) a několika rozhlasovými stanicemi: pro Český rozhlas připravoval mj. pořady Písničky po francouzsku a Odrhovačky po kapkách, fejetony psal pro české vysílání Svobodné Evropy a BBC. Na CD různých interpretů přispěl svými písňovými texty, ale též překlady textů Jacquese Brela, Edith Piaf či Borise Viana, týmž způsobem se podílel na několika divadelních inscenacích (mj. Kabaret Vian-Cami v Divadle v Dlouhé, 1997; Sólo pro tři v Národním divadle, 2007).
Dědečkova básnická a zejména textařská tvorba jednoznačností výrazu a epigramatickou zkratkovitostí vědomě navázala na poetiku Františka Gellnera, často bývá stylizována jako agresivní provokace tradičního posluchačského vkusu. Její podstatou je gesto vzpoury proti zmechanizovaným mezilidským vztahům, pokleslé etice konzumního způsobu života i dominanci tuposti nejen v předlistopadové společnosti. V satirických pamfletech a ironických baladách zejména z prvních sbírek písňových textů (souborně v knize Blues pro slušný lidi) využívá Dědeček nadsázku blížící se absurdnímu černému humoru, perzifláž, vyhrocené pointy, postupy nonsensové poezie, slang. Pro celou jeho básnickou a písňovou tvorbu je příznačné napětí mezi „vysokým“ a „nízkým“, mezi patosem a jeho destrukcí projevem racionálního odstupu a oscilace mezi okázale zdůrazňovaným cynismem a úzkostí. Veršová forma se pohybuje od jednoduchého rýmovaného popěvku k sonetu, jehož archaičnost lexikální, syntaktická i morfologická stojí v protikladu k aktuální tematice (Znělky); v některých případech autor dospívá k rozsáhlejším komponovaným celkům (Můj vůz).
Hra s jazykem, kritická reflexe a ironická sebereflexe se projevují i v Oběžníku, kaleidoskopu prozaických fragmentů evokujících atmosféru druhé poloviny 60. let. V útržcích příběhů, úvah a veršů, ve kterých se prolíná rovina intimní s rovinou společenskou, probouzení pubertální sexuality se změnami politickými, nelze nevidět příbuznost s Dědečkovou písňovou tvorbou. Sarkastická analýza skutečnosti a groteskní nadsázka vyúsťují v tematizaci trapnosti jako projevu sebeuvědomění i poznání stavu společnosti. Podobné postupy autor využívá i v mnoha více či méně časových fejetonech (soubory Projevy a stati a Bát se a krást).
Prožité poznání konečnosti lidského života je východiskem sbírky Věci po mrtvých, v níž jsou zachovány některé typické rysy autorské poetiky, ustupuje však dosud příznačná stylizace: cynická maska a okázalý nadhled, s jejichž pomocí bylo možné úspěšně čelit nejen falešnému, ale i přirozenému patosu tragických stránek lidské existence, jsou v konfrontaci se smrtí samy usvědčeny z falše a zbytečnosti. V motivech pozdního hledání cesty k zemřelým blízkým na sbírku navazuje útlý román Snídaně se psem. Životní osudy postav, odvíjející se v podmínkách daných politickými i společenskými konstantami komunistického režimu, jsou obrazem převažujících dobových, často generačně podmíněných hodnotových měřítek a limitovaných možností a životních zkušeností individua i společnosti. Autor však nedospívá ke karikatuře či k jednoduchým soudům: jakkoli ani zde zcela neopouští humor a ironii, předmětem jeho zájmu je spíše motivace jednání postav ve sféře veřejné i intimní. V jiné rovině lze román považovat za zprávu o obtížném pokusu překonat generační vzdálenost mezi synem a otcem. – Jazyková vynalézavost a neotřelé rýmy jsou dominantním kvalitami Dědečkových veršů pro děti (Šli červotoči do houslí, Uleželé želé).

Sportovní kariéra
V 70. letech byl Jiří Dědeček dorosteneckým mistrem ČSSR ve veslování na skifu.

Politika
Když se koncem roku 2006 sestavovala druhá vláda Mirka Topolánka, Dědeček se měl stát ministrem kultury za SZ; na poslední chvíli si ale resort vyžádala KDU-ČSL výměnou za školství, které tak narychlo obsadila Dana Kuchtová.

Malta

Immanuel Mifsud (Malta, 1967) is considered the leading Generation-X writer in Malta. He has published seven short story collections, one of which won the National Literature Award in 2002. He is considered to be a very controversial writer and in 2005 one of his short story collections was banned and the copies were destroyed by his former publisher, considering his stories as obscene. This book, titled Kimika (Chemistry) was banned from the major newspapers in Malta, and one left-leaning paper called it a pornographic book. His most controversial story to date, ‘Zerafa’, has been translated into English and German and was published in various collections and journals, such as the Northern Ireland journal Irish Pages, and in a collection of Mifsud’s stories translated into German, titled Ich Umkreiste Die Erde. Mifsud’s prose was also nominated for the Premio Stregha Europa.
Immanuel Mifsud has also published five poetry collections, including two bilingual (Maltese/English) collections, titled Polska-Slovensko, and KM. The Irish publishers Southword Editions published a collection of poem titled Confidential Reports with translations by foremost Irish poet Maurice Riordan. Mifsud is regularly invited to attend poetry festivals, for example the Festival de Poesia de la Mediterranea (Palma de Mallorca, Mallorca), the Festival of Poetry and Wine (Medana, Slovenia), Trnovski Terceti (Ljubljana, Slovenia), Days of Poetry and Wine (Valtice, Czech Republic). In 2007 he was invited for a reading tour in Poland where he visited and read in Warsaw, Lublin, Kazimierz Dolny and Lodz. In 2009 and 2010 he was invited for a reading tour and interviews in Leipzig and Berlin. Several poems of Mifsud have been translated and published in prestigious European and American publications such as New European Poets, and The Echoing Years.
Immanuel Mifsud has also written a book of short stories for children, a collection of lullabies and in September 2010 a collection of children’s poems will be out.

 

Česko

Vladimír Skalský sa narodil 26. apríla 1972 v Prešove. Počas gymnaziálnych štúdií sa úspešne zúčastňoval súťaží v matematike, fyzike a programovaní, vrátane medzinárodných. Napríklad bol jediným zástupcom Slovenska na Medzinárodnej fyzikálnej olympiáde v holandskom Groningene v roku 1990.
Od rovnakého roku žije v Prahe, v rokoch 1990-1995 absolvoval štúdium na Matematicko-fyzikálnej fakulte Univerzity Karlovej, odbor teoretická fyzika, ďalší rok strávil na postgraduálnom štúdiu.
Počas štúdia sa intenzívne venoval vedeckej činnosti v oblasti dynamiky ión-molekulových reakcií a teórie deterministického chaosu, publikoval viac než desať štúdií v medzinárodných vedeckých časopisoch, jeho príspevky zazneli na celom rade vedeckých konferencií na troch kontinentoch. V roku 1994 bol ocenený najvyšším tvorivým štipendiom na MFF UK.
Od roku 1992 je významným účastníkom pražského slovenského života, od roku 1993 je zamestnaný ako novinár a manažér v oblasti česko-slovenských vzťahov.
V súčasnosti je zástupcom šéfredaktorky časopisu Slovenské dotyky, šéfredaktorom spravodajského serveru Český a slovenský svet, určeného krajanom, a prvým podpredsedom a ekonomickým riaditeľom Slovensko-českého klubu. Je výkonným podpredsedom Slovenského literárneho klubu v ČR. Podieľa sa na produkcii divadelnej Československej scény, kde pôsobí ako tajomník, ďalej cyklu festivalov Dni slovenskej kultúry po Českej republike, najväčšej detskej vedomostnej súťaže vo visegrádskom priestore Eurorebus a ďalších významných kultúrnych, vzdelávacích a spoločenských projektov. Pôsobí ako stály komentátor Českého rozhlasu, podieľa sa na projektoch v Českej televízii.
Angažoval sa pri formulovaní niekoľkých legislatívnych noriem, napríklad pri umožnení dvojitého občianstva veľkým skupinám Slovákov v Česku a Čechov na Slovensku. Je členom Legislatívnej komisie Svetového združenia Slovákov v zahraničí. V roku 1999 pôsobil vo funkcii koordinátora pre zahraničnú politiku vtedy najvýznamnejšej českej občianskej iniciatívy Impulz ‘99.
Novinárske a literárne žánre publikuje od roku 1990, celkovo zhruba jeden a pol tisíc materiálov vo vyše päťdesiatke médií.
Jeho básnický debut vyšiel v roku 2000 pod názvom „K tichu“. V roku 1997 bol spoluautorom knihy profilov "30 Slovákov v Českej republike", v roku 2001 knihy „Slovensko-české osudy (100+1 osobnost české společnosti ze Slovenska), v roku 2002 kníh „Slováci v Českej republike: Fakty“ a „Dialog vědy a umění“ a ďalších. Básne publikoval aj v antológiách „Slovenská literatura v Praze 2000“ a „Pražské inšpirácie slovenských spisovateľov (Praha v zrcadle slovenské literatury)“.
V súčasnosti je predsedom Svetového združenia Slovákov v zahraničí, Vice-President of Europeans Throughout The World a člen Rady vlády ČR pro národnostní menšiny.
